Film Discussion Series - CALENDAR 2010

Series 1: Nepali Cinema; April – June

The Docskool Film discussion series is a fortnightly professional level film discussion program that attempts to explore and talk of various issues that stay important to the field of cinema. Organised as a professional level program, the program wishes to cater to larger film professionals as the event stays inclusive and provides space for common individuals enthusiasm on cinema.

 

The Nepali cinema series will be organised between April to June 2010 opening the curtain to the entire discussion program for 2010. The series has been designed on a special interest catering to varied issues such as content exploration, legal support/provisions, productions and distributions etc. making the program on a larger note, ambitious enough to discuss of the various problems Nepali cinema faces.

- Still operating on a film censorship advised in 2026 by King Mahendra at a time when the world saw the highest amount of political infiltration in the media; Nepal's censorship still sits and observes a comfortable position often redefining creative content and its exploration by an artist.

- With digital cinema preferably changing the dimensions of cinema in Nepal, a key question as to if contents in our films are evolving often strikes the general cine-viewer. The discussion deals with the idea of financing and where our finances have proven weak.

- Gathering the centre stage for discussions in all spaces, Indigenous concepts have well established a separate cinematic recognition here in the last couple of years. The discussion wishes to attempt to analyse the specific film form of indigene films in Nepal and scopes in which they perform building, or killing with it the possibilities of redefining cinema in Nepal.

- The closing discussion of the Nepali cinema discussion series; this discussion seeks to deal the many unanswered and unasked queries that the two month long program was unable to raise.

On a specific note, the program wishes to specifically raise discussions on the various structures that are observed in contemporary cinema and as to whether or not they are actually different.
