Films must change. Rather, the way films are perceived, created and presented must change here in Nepal. The idea of conceptualising films as an art-form, as a medium of expression free from biases of economy or politics seems vaguely present in Nepal at the moment. Killing with it the numerous possibilities film as a medium of art possesses in the advocacy of bias-free analysis potentially working to create an equal free world.
With the common belief that film as a medium of progression can only be attained through the widespread understanding of the medium as an art-form and the willingness to create forms within films that analyze and discourse. Documentary Open Skool as an open networking platform of amateur and aspiring filmmakers has been working in Nepal since 2008.
The network aims at providing a support mechanism whereby people interested in making qualitative films have access to both theoretical and technical fronts regarding filmmaking. Acting as an open access free platform which promotes filmmaking from its core, as an expressive language of art DOS’s existence allows for the creation of an arena whereby film enthuses from any fronts of life can come together to discuss, learn and make films entrusted from their belief on film as an art-form.
